A Senior's Christmas

There is nothing I like about Christmas
It's my least favourite time of the year
I don't understand what the fuss is about
What's the reason for all the good cheer?

There is nothing I like about Christmas
I don't care if you call me a "Grinch"
If you think I'm a scrooge that's OK with me,
I won't change my position one inch.

I admit that I used to like Christmas
But that was a long time ago
And I was much younger in those days,
And still liked the ice and the snow

I just loved going out with my father
To help him cut down the tree
I can still see it there in the corner
With the angel smiling at me

I can still see all of our family
Sitting down to our big Christmas feast,
And the crib at church with the Christ child,
And the wondrous Kings of the East

I remember standing alone in the dark
Searching the skies for the star,
My heart filled with love for a baby
Away in a manger so far.

And sometimes I watched too , for Santa,
And, although I never had proof,
I'm sure that one night, when I was real young
I heard him land there , on our roof.

Some said that he never existed,
If I thought that I never let on,
I just knew he left wonderful presents
And the milk and the cookies were gone!

I still love the beautiful music,
And the food and treats , and good cheer,
As a matter of fact ... I love Christmas ,
If's my favourite time of the year.
